We LOVE our Grandparents!
We were blessed to have 7 grandparents in person today and 2 more connected via Skype. The fourth graders had a lot of fun with our grandparents. They insisted on singing "Banana Hymn of the Redeemed" after our other songs. Then we had our "Then and Now" discussion. Some of the kids were amazed that there were pencils and TVs back in the day. We worked on scientific processes a little more with our science investigation, while we made hard boiled eggs float in H2O. The students measured out the salt that they added to the water. Many of them were surprised by how much salt they had to put in so that the density of the water would change. The 4th grade scientists have been working on thinking like scientists, so hopefully this will help it. |

We are going to do some prep work for running the mile next week. We have an afternoon trip to the library on Monday. Please send along library cards with your students if they have one. I hope that you had a great weekend. The coming week will have more reading from Number the Stars. We will study Creation in our Bible study. Start early in the week and continually review the passages with them. We will begin spelling class with chapter 1. The words will be written in the planners on Monday. On Monday and Friday, we will have our PE Class. Just a reminder that we usually begin PE class with stretching and running. All students need to have proper shoes for PE class. The students will have an opportunity to change clothes if they need to as well. Volleyball will be our first unit. This Wednesday will be our first Wednesday with dress code. If you are unfamiliar with our Wednesday dress code, it can be found online here. Parents are always welcome to attend as well. Lastly, on Monday, the students will receive their 2 corrected papers. They will go into their Monday folders. Then the students will bring them home in order to show their work to their parents and obtain a signature or initials from you. Have a blessed week. |
End of Week 1
We had a fantastic first week. The fourth graders enjoyed using their Chrome books, singing some songs, and doing some artwork. They learned a lot about our class theme, "I am 3rd" and gained more knowledge about WWII when we prepared for our novel, Number the Stars. Hopefully the fourth graders will come home with some fun stories about their first week. If anyone mentions it, yes, I did ask them to bring a deck of cards on Monday. |
2015-2016 School year!
Things are being prepared for our new school year! Can you believe there are only 3 1/2 weeks of summer vacation left? Crazy!! Right now there are lots of preparations going on at AW. Teachers are working on their lesson plans, cleaning up the school, and adding new decorations in their classrooms. But, the biggest thing going on right now is preparations for vacation bible school! It begins this Monday at 8:45 am. The theme for this year is Discovery camp! It is going to be so great. We will be camping out in the woods, inside! Good thing because it is 100+ degrees outside! Come and join us for bible lessons, singing, outdoor games, snacks, and crafts! It is going to be a great week growing closer to our Savior Jesus Christ and remembering his unending love for us!! |
Monday August 18, 2014
This week we will begin our spelling class with chapter 1. At the beginning of the week there are 2 assignments. The first assignment is to write the 20 words in the planner. That will be due Tuesday. I will also assign p15 from the spelling book, but that homework isn't due until Wednesday. On Wednesday we will take a pretest of our 20 words. On Friday we will have the final test. If any student gets an A+ on the pretest, they will not have to take the test again on Friday. We did a vocabulary activity with a partner today. The student's received a new word. They had to write its definition. Then the partners had to choose 5 more things to find out about the word. They could find a synonym or antonym, use the word in a sentence, draw a picture about it, find some related words, write down the pronunciation guide, or find the etymology and history of the word. What was your student's word? IXL with a device was fun last week, but we will return to the textbook today when we study math lesson 3. There will be problems from the book. We will have a practice math test on Thursday. On Friday will be the real math test. We began our volleyball unit, so you can ask your student how the bumping went. Monday folders will come home Monday. There will be 1 corrected paper as well as Scholastic book orders (unless your child brought those home over the weekend). Please look at the folder and sign or initial the paper next to August 18. Parents do NOT have to sign the student planner each night, like you have done in the past. It is time for your student to take another step towards more responsibility and independence and remember to do their homework and hand it back in! It is always good practice to check things over with your student just as a way of communication with your student! |
